Is lay on hands a bonus action?
Thanks for the votes/answers. Hi there, yes, the ability requires taking an action, regardless of whether the paladin themselves is the target. As an action, you can touch a creature and draw power from the pool to restore a number of hit points to that creature, up to the maximum amount remaining in your pool.
Bonus Actions
Various class features, spells, and other abilities let you take an additional action on your turn called a bonus action. The Cunning Action feature, for example, allows a rogue to take a bonus action.
Lay on Hands is an Action in Baldur's Gate 3. Actions can be used in both exploration and combat to maneuver across the battlefield or to harm or aid Characters. The actions that a Character can perform are based on their Class and Equipment.
Lay On Hands wrote: Beginning at 2nd level, a paladin can heal wounds (her own or those of others) by touch. Each day she can use this ability a number of times equal to 1/2 her paladin level plus her Charisma modifier.
Lay on Hands is not a spell so the comparaison with it is not applicable. If a character normally spends 1 spell slot to cast a spell, if it doesn't cast a spell it shouldn't spend a slot.
Can I use a bonus action after dashing? By standard, no, a Dash takes a full action. There are however some abilities, feats and spells that allow you to take a Dash as a bonus action!
So Dash can or cannot be taken twice in a turn, once as an action and once as a bonus action (for rogues and monks)? A rogue using Cunning Action and a monk using Step of the Wind can use Dash twice on a turn (action + bonus action). Don't forget someone with Haste on it or Expeditious Retreat.

A character can use lay on hands no more than once per round. Effect: "You spend a healing surge but regain no hit points. Instead, the target regains hit points as if it had spent a healing surge. You must have at least one healing surge remaining to use this power."
The "Laying on of hands" is a spiritually type of healing done to a person facilitated by someone else, it is one person praying to their God and using their faith to revitalize another person. It would be far fetched to allow someone to do that to themselves.
What are paladin weaknesses?
- Grass.
- Electric.
The 5E PHB states that a Paladin does not need to serve any God: just staying true to his Oath is enough to get/keep his powers.
All three of those action types are physical and are thus not allowed. In order to separate the issues slightly: Do you think you can use Lay on Hands on yourself if you are paralyzed? Only mental actions can be taken while paralyzed. Short answer, no.
Starting at 7th level, you and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you can't be charmed while you are conscious.
Hit Dice: 1d10 per paladin level. Hit Points at 1st Level: 10 + your Constitution modifier. Hit Points at Higher Levels: 1d10 (or 6) + your Constitution modifier per paladin level after 1st.
Lay On Hands is magical healing. It's a supernatural ability to heal, thus magical. It also doesn't work in anti-magic fields. So yes, your Fey feat would give you +2 healing when you used LoH's on yourself.
Players only have one bonus action on their turn, even if they have multiple features that award them. They must choose carefully depending on the situation. One of the most common examples of bonus action usage is the rogue's class ability called “Cunning Action”.
Is there any way to stabilize as an bonus action? If you are a Grave Cleric, you can cast spare the dying as a bonus action. If you are a Thief Rogue, you can use a healer's kit as a bonus action.
You can interrupt a multiple-attack action with a bonus action/reaction only if the trigger of the bonus action/reaction is an attack, rather than the action.
Certain classes, rogue and monk for example, have class features that allow them to dodge or disengage with a bonus action, but that will be class-specific.
Can you dash multiple times a day?
As a Dasher, you choose both when and how much (or how little) you'd like to dash. You can dash all day every day or a little here and there - no commitment required!
You can spend 1 ki point to take the Disengage or Dash action as a bonus action on your turn, and your jump distance is doubled for the turn.
Lay on hands is an achievement for gaining a level in the Support Tree while reviving a teammate. This achievement cannot be unlocked using the rewards from the "A helping hand" challenges because you must level up while reviving or uncuffing of a teammate, not after.
Second Wind
On your turn, you can use a bonus action to regain hit points equal to 1d10 + your fighter level. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.
Shifting: As a bonus action, you can assume a more bestial appearance. This transformation lasts for 1 minute, until you die, or until you revert to your normal appearance as a bonus action.
The Paladin ability Lay on Hands heals a friendly target for ( 10 + Paladin level ) x Charisma modifier number of hit points, or deals that much damage to an undead target. The amount healed does not suffer a penalty when used on Warforged (that is, it heals them for 100% of its total).
Yes, you can Lay on Hands holding two things.
The spell gains the manipulate trait and requires you to make gestures. You can use this component while holding something in your hand, but not if you are restrained or otherwise unable to gesture freely.
If a spell targets a creature of your choice, you can choose yourself, unless the creature must be hostile or specifically a creature other than you.
You can cure multiple diseases and neutralize multiple poisons with a single use of Lay on Hands, expending hit points separately for each one. This feature has no effect on undead and constructs. If the target is already at full HP, then there are no more HP to “restore.”
Similar to clerics, all Paladins are incredible support characters who consistently have access to healing and other support abilities. However, Paladins of the Oath of the Crown have access to yet even more healing than their contemporaries.
Is healing word a bonus action?
Healing word stays a bonus action casting, whatever the level you are casting it at. Note: You don't "prepare" (as in the original question) a spell at a higher level. You decide to cast it at a specific level at the time of the casting.

Androxus: Androxus tops the Paladins tier list most of the time due to his ability to be an excellent flank. He has fantastic mobility and great damage output. It's everything you could want. He's also been possibly the most consistent character and is a very safe choice even when you aren't sure of the meta.
Paladins can be any of alignment, although evil paladins are extremely rare. However, their oath and their alignment can either be in harmony, or their oath might represent standards that they have not yet attained.
Unless you are playing a divine class that specifies that you can only have one deity than there is no reason you cannot worship and gain favor from multiple deities. Neither a paladin nor an oracle is required to have a deity. The description of the oracle specifically states it draws power from multiple sources.
A paladin who has broken a vow typically seeks absolution from a cleric who shares his or her faith or from another paladin of the same order. The paladin might spend an all-night vigil in prayer as a sign of penitence, or undertake a fast or similar act of self-denial.
The nerves that control a man's ability to have a reflex erection are located in the sacral area (S2–S4) of the spinal cord. Most paralyzed men are able to have a reflex erection with physical stimulation unless the S2–S4 pathway is damaged. Spasticity is known to interfere with sexual activity in some people with SCI.
No, they are only immune to disease. Poison is a completely different condition/damage type.
- Digital rectal stimulation—Move your fingertip in a small, gentle, circular motion around the rectum/anus. ...
- Digital removal of stool: Use your finger to remove stool from the rectum. ...
- Enemas—Use a device to flush warm water into your rectum, which will help to empty it of stool.
What are the rules for bonus action 5e?
After casting a spell with a bonus action, only cantrips that requires an action can be cast in that same turn. No, you can not substitute bonus actions. You can move up to your speed and take one action and IF an ability gives you a bonus action, you can use that bonus action.
An object thrown in this manner has the follow properties Thrown(20-45), and light, this attack can be done as a bonus action, and deals 1d4 damage.
Anything that takes an Action can only be done using an action, Anything that says it takes a bonus action can only be done with a bonus action, Anything that takes a reaction can only be done as a reaction. During your turn you can move, take one action and one bonus action, with certain abilities modifying that.
This feature allows you to take a Dash, Disengage, or Hide action as a bonus action instead of an action. This can give you the ability to zoom across the battlefield with two Dash actions in a turn or maneuver through a horde of enemies completely unharmed.
Surprise may happen when someone is unaware or unready for combat. If surprised, they cannot move, take an action, bonus action, or reaction on their first turn.
Name | Source | Classes |
---|---|---|
Ensnaring Strike | PHB | Ranger |
Expeditious Retreat | PHB | Artificer, Artificer, Artificer (Revisited), Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard |
Hail of Thorns | PHB | Ranger |
Healing Word | PHB | Bard, Cleric, Druid |
The rule for bonus action says you cannot cast another spell on your turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of one action. So far so good. That means reactions are out (not an action to cast) and leveled spells are out (not cantrips).
If you miss your first attack, using your bonus action to offhand attack can be an excellent way to make sure you're still outputting damage.
If you are proficient, you can use your bonus action to take the Attack action with throwing knives in addition to your normal action. You cannot add your proficiency bonus to your attack roll or damage rolls for any attacks made using a bonus action in this way.
The rule on casting a spell as a bonus action applies only on the turn you cast the spell. For example, spiritual weapon can be cast as a bonus action, and it lasts for 1 minute. On the turn you cast it, you can't cast another spell before or after it, unless that spell is a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action.
Can you rage as an action?
On your turn, you can enter a rage as a bonus action. While raging, you gain the following benefits if you aren't wearing heavy armor: You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws. When you make a melee weapon attack using Strength, you gain a +2 bonus to the damage roll.
A popular house rule in Dungeons & Dragons lets characters drink a potion as a bonus action rather than as an action. (See Scrutinizing the 9 Most Popular House Rules for D&D.)
Yes. This happens because opening a door is move action.
No. Actions and bonus actions aren't interchangeable.
Hiding in combat uses up your action, but otherwise follows all of the other rules for hiding: you can't hide if anyone can see you clearly, you make a Dexterity (Stealth) check against the passive Perception score of anyone that might notice you, you have to stay quiet, you can't move out into the open, etc.
